Members of the Board of Trustees are elected at the June general election to three year terms on a staggered basis by a majority vote of the currently serving trustees. All trustees must be at least 18 years of age. At the June general election, the executive officers (President, Vice-president, Secretary and Treasurer) are elected for the upcoming year. Board of Trustees members should profess a deep desire to serve children and a strong belief in the values and mission of SCSC.
By Pennsylvania charter school law, known as Act 22 of 1997, the duties/responsibilities of the Board of Trustees are as follows:
The Board of Trustees of a charter school shall have the authority to decide matters related to the operation of the school, including, but not limited to, budgeting, curriculum and operating procedures, subject to the school's charter. The Board shall have the authority to employ, discharge and contract with necessary professional and nonprofessional employees subject to the school's charter and the provisions of this article.
