School Profile
The Souderton Charter School Collaborative is a learning environment that
values and nurtures every child as an individual. Together, parents and faculty
are developing an individualized learning program to fully develop each child's
potential. Parents, community members and professionals are encouraged to
interact with and learn from one another and to participate in the learning
process, creating unique opportunities for each child to pursue personal
interests.
Our goal is to offer a proven and innovative learning environment in which all
learn cooperatively. It offers choices to community members by allowing you to
choose a fundamentally different type of school. The children are becoming
individuals who are confident in their abilities to adapt to a changing
environment and shape their futures.
The school emphasizes the following:
Learning by doing: Research shows that children excel when involved with
meaningful, hands-on activities. Your child's interests will be engaged with
exciting projects that, for example, could focus on the local environment,
community and nature.
Parent/Community Partnerships: A partnership among parents, teachers, and
community members is encouraged and nurtured so your child's educational
environment can be individualized, adaptive and continually improving. The
school is a learning organization for everyone involved.
The Collaborative proudly opened its doors in September, 2000. Initial grade
levels started with K-5 and each year one grade level has been added. Student to
teacher ratios in each homebase are less than 12:1. Multi-age groupings allow
for more individualized instruction. For example, one homebase may combine
children in grades 1 and 2. The school also strives to allow children from
different grade levels to work on projects and other activities together, to
encourage further multi-age groupings.
