Curriculum
Singapore Math
Singapore Math upholds high academic standards. It supports students in learning
new concepts and working through independent practice on these concepts. The
goal of Singapore Math is to build a foundation of critical thinking that will
position students for success in more advanced concepts by building core
knowledge of a concept before moving on to new concepts. The program promotes
this by first introducing students to key concepts with pictures and concrete
examples. The student then progresses to understand the abstract concept. It is
a balance between independent practice, mental calculations, word problems, and
creating problem solving.

100 Book Challenge
100 Book Challenge is a unified system of independent reading for students and
instructional reading for teachers. The program allows all students access to
great books. 100 Book Challenge integrates all reading materials and assessment
tools into one simple color-coded system that kids, teachers and parents can
understand and use to learn in their daily work together. All students are
reading at their independent level. Students read for at least 30 minutes a day
at school and read at home. During this time teachers are conferencing
with students and determining the next step in each student's reading instruction.
Skills and concepts are embedded in the program. Additionally, this program
develops a sense of family literacy in all homes by holding students accountable
for their reading. Through all the components students learn to love books and
are inspired to be life long readers.

Project Approach
The project approach is a method of teaching in which an in-depth study of a
particular topic is conducted by a child or a group or children. Children study
a topic that is interesting to them and on their level. The teacher acts as a
facilitator. The approach facilitates integration between subject areas and
allows students to relate home and school learning. Children are expected to
work cooperatively on complex and open-ended tasks as well as follow
instructions in step-by-step learning. The project approach provides one way to
introduce a wider range of learning opportunities into the classroom.

The Responsive Classroom
The Responsive Classroom is an approach to teaching and learning that fosters
social, emotional, and academic growth in a strong and safe school community.
The goal is to enable optimal student learning. The Responsive Classroom is
based on the premise that children learn best when they have both academic and
social-emotional skills. The approach therefore consists of classroom and school
wide practices for deliberately helping children build academic and
social-emotional competencies.
